Marvellous Matariki kites.

 Happy Matariki everyone!

On the 2 July we celebrated the Māori New Year, a time to consider the year ahead. The days are starting to lengthen and spring will soon be here, we just need to get through this cold winter first!

Matariki and the the star cluster, have got many stories attached to them. We looked at two; one about how Ranginui and Papatuanuku were separated by Tāne Mahuta, and how Tāwhirimatea was so angry he ripped out his eyes and threw thunderbolts to the sky, creating the cluster, and another story about 7 sisters making kites, and them going to the sky. Ururangi’s kite was different from the rest, it was rainbow coloured. We have mixed these two stories to create the design of our kites.

My kite has Tawhirimatea and the wind represented with the clouds. I then coloured it in as a rainbow.

What stories have you heard about Matariki?

Matariki Printing!

Kia Ora bloggers! 2 weeks ago on Friday we started a matariki art task, It was called foam printing, Basically we had to draw our mountains and seven stars onto a practice piece of paper as a draft copy. once we had done that it had been checked of by a teacher to see if we could get our foam piece, once we got it we had to copy our design onto our piece of foam carefully without piercing it. when we had fully copied the design we went to dye it. There was a roller with coloured dye on it (multi-pule of them)  we would roll it onto our foam piece and then press it onto a piece of A4 paper, leaving the indented lines white and leaving a coulred desin of the background so the stars and the mountain outlines were were visible. have you ever done foam rolling? if so was it at home or at school?

Have a great afternoon! <3

Name Angle's

Hello bloggers,Today in maths we used a ruler to write out our names and used a protractor to measure the angles. We had to have angles such as,  Acute angle (less than 90 degrees), Right angle (equal to 90 degrees),Obtuse angle (more than 90 but less than 180 degrees), Straight angle (equal to 180 degrees) and Reflex angle (more than 180 less than 360). Have you ever done this?

Holes

kia ora bloggers. In reading we are reading a book called holes. This book is about a boy named Stanley Yelnats, this name can be read forwards and backwards.

he was accused of stealing shoes form Clyde Livingston a  famous sports player.

Stanley was sent to camp Green Lake for a crime he did not commit.

At camp green he had to dig one hole a day. 5ft x 5ft.

Camp Green Lake is a dry wasteland in the middle of nowhere. its a very hot place because its In the middle of a desert .

Stanley is from a poor family,he is overweight and at school he was bullied.

Stanley's family is cursed. Stanley always seemed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Angels

 Kia ora bloggers,

For numeracy today, we have started to learn about angles.

We learnt about 3 different angles today - acute (less than 90°), right angle (90°), and obtuse (larger than 90° but smaller than 180°).  We also learnt how to use a protractor to measure angles.  We know that we need to measure an angle from a vertice (a corner where two straight lines meet).

For our create task, we had to measure three different angles on the first letter of our name - can you  figure out if they are acute, right angle or obtuse?
